By installing, accessing, or using the Cloak browser extension ("Extension"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the Extension.

2. Description of Service

Cloak is a browser extension that:

  • Automatically detects and anonymizes personally identifiable information (PII) in text before it is sent to ChatGPT
  • Restores anonymized PII in ChatGPT's responses
  • Processes all data locally in your browser

The Extension operates entirely within your browser and does not send data to external servers.

3. License

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension for your personal, non-commercial use.

You may not:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute the Extension without permission
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension
  • Use the Extension for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Remove any copyright or proprietary notices

4. User Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

  • Ensuring your use of the Extension complies with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Using the Extension in accordance with ChatGPT's Terms of Service
  • Maintaining the security of your device and browser
  • Verifying that anonymization is working correctly for your use case

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Warranties of merchantability
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement
  • Accuracy or completeness of anonymization

We do not warrant that the Extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. Anonymization is based on pattern matching and may not detect all PII or may produce false positives.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Loss of data or information
  • Loss of profits or business opportunities
  • Privacy breaches resulting from Extension failures
  • Any damages arising from your use or inability to use the Extension

Our total liability for any claims arising from or related to the Extension shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Extension (which is $0, as the Extension is free).

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Cloak and its developers from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Extension, violation of these Terms, or violation of any rights of another party.

8. Third-Party Services

The Extension interacts with ChatGPT, which is a third-party service. Your use of ChatGPT is subject to OpenAI's Terms of Service. We are not responsible for:

  • ChatGPT's availability or functionality
  • Changes to ChatGPT's interface that may affect Extension functionality
  • ChatGPT's data handling practices

9. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Extension at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

10. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Extension immediately, without prior notice, for any reason, including:

  • Violation of these Terms
  • Illegal or unauthorized use
  • At our sole discretion

You may stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it from your browser.

11. Intellectual Property

The Extension, including its code, design, and documentation, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Extension is developed, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

13. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

14. Entire Agreement

These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Cloak regarding the Extension and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
